Thanks Greg, however I had already read that page when googling this and it doesn't provide any instructions, just news about how it now supports cross-play.
I don't want to install the game (costless trial or otherwise) unless I can first find out about how cross-play will work... more than specifically, if I will demand to subscribe to this Realms thing in order to do and then. I already take to pay a yearly fee just and then my son can play his PS4 games online (after already purchasing the games, which aren't cheap!), so I'thousand non going to buy the game, then pay a subscription with Microsoft/Realms on top of all that just and then he can play ane game cantankerous-platform.
So is information technology possible to play this game on a PC with someone on PS4 without having to pay a monthly online fee afterward purchasing the game?

However, that post is from 11 months ago... before cross-platform play was implemented.
This is the PC Windows version of the software, and I selected "Windows Microsoft Store" as the location of the question since this (to me) is a pre-sales question about the capabilities of a Windows game in the Microsoft Store. If y'all look at my question info on the top correct of this thread, it says "Windows 10 / Microsoft Store" so I'm assuming information technology ended up in the correct location. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just to confirm for anyone else... I did purchase information technology for the PC and information technology's actually pretty unproblematic to play cross platform without any additional costs. Just add your friend on the PS4 and visa versa. Once either one of you is in a game, the other can simply click on that thespian in the friend listing and select "Join" to join their game.

Cheers for kindly responding. I don't hateful to "necro" an one-time thread (bring it back to life past replying to a "airtight" thread). I'm looking to do the same. I own the Java version (Classic Minecraft westward/ no cross play) and was advised I'd need the other version to attempt to play with my friends, who play solely on the PS4. I completely concur that you shouldn't crush out $29.99 (+taxation, if applicable) for the game, also every bit $seven.99/month (current rate here in CO, U.s.) for a Realm to cross play inside a singular game.
I thanks for your response (and diligence through those links -- they weren't too helpful...) I volition definitely be giving information technology a try.

Actually Skaeae, If you had a Mojang business relationship with Minecraft already purchased before, or only after, the windows 10 edition was released, y'all should take a gift code sitting in your account you can utilize to go it free.

I accept purchased the Java edition few years earlier, it was nonetheless a Minecraft account, subsequently transferred into a Mojang version, only I can't see whatever codes in my account.
